If You Owned The 3 Fingers …. and there were no restrictions …. What Would You Do?

The Three Fingers at the foot of Lake Chelan have been there since the 1960’s. They sit silently, with no use. Anyone who has ever been here eventually asks ‘WHY?’.

Surely there’s a reason - and yes, there is. (Click Here ) to read that story.

But for today - we’re suggesting that there are no issues with the property and anything goes! WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU COULD.

Legal and Financial issues are not a problem.  - So What WOULD you do?

Dream on and share. Who knows ….. maybe someone is watching.

Well, let’s go with what’s popular right now, condo’s. That seems to make ec onomic sence. Maybe you can have Al Lorenz speak to the condo movement? Is it a nation trend or just here? If just here, why? At first I thought it was a price thing, but a lot of the condos on the market are more than houses?
My dream for the property would be a park, with a day marina. Let the public enjoy more water access opportunities. That’s always one of the top things people want to see in the dozens of surveys we’ve done over the years. Maybe have a few vendors like ice cream, or paddle boats in the inlets. Link the park to park trail to it. If they can’t get past the legal battle maybe this is an option? How about putting it into a park until the legal battle it over, like say 10-15 years? Just a thought.

I’ve always imagined a high rise resort hotel on the property. Twin towers if you will and a huge pool in the center built on top of a water-side restaurant on the main level with floating boat docks in front and temporary moorage in each of the slips between the pads. Grass in the center section too, even if it were 2 or 3 floors up around the pool. On the top floor of the west tower a large convention center, big enough to host our annual Washington State Eagles Convention or as a friend of ours suggested it should be able of hosting the Washington Hort Convention, now hosted in Yakima or Wenatchee alternately.
The top of the East tower would be a heliport to handle the twin rotor aircraft that would commute to Sea-Tac 3 times an hour, bringing people back and forth between jobs and meetings elsewhere, and then home to their paradise living here.
My picture sees parking for the entire facility across the highway, submerged underground and tunneled back into the hill side but with condo-living structures rising above the parking so that sky-bridges would connect the respective locations. Above the parking would be more retail sales shops and service centers for lawyers, accountants, investment brokers and a major bank. At higher levels above the parking and the commerce would be full-ownership high-rise condos that would work it’s way up as well as east and west parallel to the lake. Called Lakeside Towers it would be the home of Washington’s best and the location would include a hospital, retirement facility, library, 8-10 restaurants, a deli, a book-store, and a bowling alley. Retired members of the community would be ex-President Obama, Washington Governor Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim and the Mayor of Chelan, Chiang Ki Chek.

Isn’t it obvious? The only one that can tackle the legal issues is a governmental entity. The City of Chelan should buy it and convert it into a park.

It’s only a matter of time before you cant even see the lake unless you own a condo. Yuck, where did this pretty little town go

I hope they build more Real Estate buildings there. Lord knows we don’t have enough as it is. I am sure that the more real estate sales people we have, the more property can be sold at great profits!!! The fact that its one of the last public views of the lake matters little now. To build parks and areas of public acccess to our wonderful lake would be ludicris!!! Besides, there’s money to be made by poor starving lawyers who actually run this state. TALL real estate buildings is what we need in that clear area!!! Who’s with me???

    Wow! What a great topic.

I think my favorite would to have them taken out, like the fourth finger was. If they were gone, it would be nearly impossible to block that view!

    Taken out!!!
Where would you dispose of that dirt?
I think the Port of Chelan County & the City of Chelan should team up with Chelan PUD and dream a little themselves. Maybe make it a National Park!

  7. hemmi101 Says:

Make them into a park. Somewhere on the site there should be a monument to the irresponsibility of the 4th finger people, who disregarded the impact their fill would have on Wilber/Green. Though my memory may have fogged, I recall that the resulting court ruling adversely affected the ability of other frontage owners to place even modest fill in front of their properties.

No condos–we have enough view blocking exclusive erections.

Wow, lots of synicism, not to mention a derogatory racial jab to boot. That particular post from bigdreamgirl should be eliminated and it is so frustrating to hear such ignorant and senseless talk on a community oriented message board.

Getting back to the intent of the discussion, I’ve always imagined the fingers as a great place to boat, bus, bike, paddle or float ( eliminating the need to set aside property to pave for parking ) and enjoy the views and water access. Perhaps just add a few docks, rope off a swimming area, add a few restrooms, bike racks, basic covered picnic tables and a few bbq’s.

  9. crit35 Says:

Why not just leave them as they are. Putting anything on them is pointless. All your going to do by putting anything on the fingers is cause heartache and discontent for everyone around. Putting highrises and condo’s will block the view for people coming into chelan, not to mention the parking issue that it will cause on that road. Besides like we need any more condo’s or big building in you small town, which is by the way fading away (little town) that is. So just leave them be.

  10. arkanjel13 Says:

Maybe the “Defenders of Small Town Chelan” could build some high rise office buildings for the Westside lawyers they hired during the Walmart thing. I’m sure they’ll be more lawsuits as more and more businesses try to plant roots here. Those lawyers are going to need a place to stay and I doubt they’ll want to shack up in Manson/Chelan with the Westside transplants.

Or maybe Al Gore could set up some kind of “Global Warming” interpretive center there. We need some interpretation on that fairy tale in a bad way since no one is listening to the real scientists and what they have to say about this natural cycle.

    Tee hee! (Tounge in cheek)

  11. djdesperado Says:

A Park! For sure! PUD could trade Goodfellows some property somewhere else that they could actually USE, and PUD could make the fingers a park! Win Win.

I have always thought it would be cool for a waterfront restaurant with marina… but at this point, with all the building, I think I’d like to see it a park.
